The body mapping is a creative therapeutic process that allows one to explore and creatively communicate their story. The process involves painting a life-size representation of your body onto canvas
and using images, symbols and words to map out places in you that are
full of life, places that pain, and places that hold hope and potential
for the future
The body map is one's self-representation in one's own brain, one's assumptions or conception of what one's body in connection with their life is like, as a whole or part. Through the body-map activity each person is able to create and individualize a personalized imprint based upon self-discovery and self- expression rooted in own experiences and perceptions.
The motivation encourages each participant to discover personal symbols which take on rich personal meaning. E.g. A symbol such as a heart carries a social meaning of love but to an individual the heart could represent hate. The aim is to give participants the opportunity to explore themselves at a deeper level to bring about healing and a better knowledge of the self.
No previous drawing or artistic experience is required from the participants, we have workshops with participants who have never painted or even held a paint brush in their hands before!
